This movie was created by a group of senior students in Year 8 on behalf of the Manaiakalani group of Schools. It was an opportunity to thank the Spark Foundation (formerly known as Telecom) for their huge contribution to Manaiakalani. The generous contribution from Spark will benefit students in our cluster for years to come. So on behalf of all of us.....THANK YOU SPARK!

Me TV by Class 2
This is Class 2's entry for the Manaiakalani Film Festival 2014. At first the students were put into several groups and they were supposed to create a movie each. We had hoped to select the best one, but we ran out of time, so we decided to include a snippet of everyones ideas into the one movie. We hope you enjoy our movie. Please leave us some feedback.

Class 2 Celtic Knot designs
In week one of term 4 the class was given a task to create Celtic knot art designs. They had to form a group of three and then proceed to design an artwork with Maori or Pacific patterns. Some chose to be more creative and design original images. Check out their results.
Iron - Tattoo designs
Now this photo here that I drew is actually suppose to be around the arm or leg. Its also a Samoan tattoo that I like and I wish to get it one day I grow up!
Last but not least, this tattoo is meant to be tattooed on the leg. It also inspired me because it represents my culture. This is also a little bit too much so I would never get it!

Music by Neo
What is Music?
Music is one of the most delicate things in life. It can help you with most things you could think of. Music has a way of going deep inside your emotions. In todays world, we sometimes use technology to make music.
Types of music.
Every type of music has developed from scratch since the medieval ages to this day. For example, late 19th century - 20th century. Blues, originated from the Southern United States by the African American folks in the late 19th century. Dubstep, emerged from the late 1990 and originates from the United Kingdom.
The impact from music.
It is always good to listen to music. It sets the mood for you to relax, but don’t push yourself to the limit of the volume or Your inner ear will be damaged and your ability to hear will be disabled. But on the other hand, music is the best thing you can listen to when you're feeling down
Instruments.
You have to love instruments, a place without instruments is not negotiable for anyone in this world. Learning how to play instruments will help you with your thinking ability and your smarts. Main instruments like the guitar, piano, and the violin is what I would recommend for beginners.
Music is very important, important as life, and if you already know the knowledge of music and you already know how to play a musical instrument, keep practising till the end
School Immersion Assembly Term 2 - by Texas
Term 2!! Welcome back Point England. Well this year is different because we have a new topic to learn about. I think for the intermediate block our theme is Sound. I like sound because we can listen to music or make instrumental beats.
This morning we had have an team assembly. At the beginning of a new term we have a team assembly which gives the teachers a chance to do something on the stage to show us some of the topic we are learning about. Walking into the hall there were helium balloons attached to the ground and most of the teachers were wearing costumes and headphones on their head. Mr Burt had worn an funky dress which kids thought that he was a clown, but he wasn't a clown. As Mr Burt was talking team 1 was getting ready to go on the stage.
Team 1 had a movie about the zoo, animals was mostly seen in the movie. Team 2 was up on the stage that was performing about planes and we got to watch the song that was playing on the stage. The teachers were doing some funny moments. As we were getting on to team 3 the performance was about lights, colours and speed of light. It was like a rainbow but the teachers wearing costumes.
Team 4 was up on the stage that had diving gear, fishing gear and treats to give away. To get some treats you have to answer a question's.Mr Burt was funny through little rubber balls across the hall. Team 5's turn to perform on the stage, I think this was about sound. It was funny that all the teachers in team 5 had a instrument and making a beat. This morning was a cool entertainment for the beginning of this term.

Sketchup by Iisa
There are many things you can use to make 3D items, but in Class 2 we use something called Sketchup. “What is Sketchup?” I hear you ask. Read on then!
Sketchup is a 3D designing programme. With it, you can make ANYTHING, you just have to put your mind to it. If you have a good design or something, to print it you send it to a 3D printer to be made.
Sketchup to me is special. Why? because with it you can make whatever you wish, although sometimes it gets real tough. But still, Sketchup is really cool. Believe me.
Okay, I know some of you who are reading this want to know what Sketchup is. Well, there’s a video tutorial at the end of this story. If you don’t want to watch it, then you may read on.
Shapes - You have the circle, square, and hexagon shapes.
Pencil - Draw straight lines.
Colour Bucket - Colour things in.
Selector - Select things to move, turn, duplicate or delete.
Rotating tool/Shift Pan - Move around your design.
Eraser - Erase any unwanted lines.
At this point you may be wondering “What is it used for?” Well... You can use it for making, creating, building, learning, and architecture. This is because it isn’t just for learning and those things. It’s also for creating modern-day things.
Like I said before, there are many things we can use to make 3D items, but I choose Sketchup. In case you never knew, I have used Sketchup for a few years.

Sketchup is a 3D design programme which you can use on an imac, windows and netbooks. Sketchup is a design program which you use to make 3 dimensional shapes. On this one program you can download it for free on an Imac. You can design toys, objects, or plastic clips for your lunch bag.
The people that use it are students, parents or teacher mostly anyone over the globe. The year 7/8s from class 2 got the chance to use Sketchup for a project. My friends were creative on Sketchup. One of my friends was making a boat and the others were making cars.
People use Sketchup for buildings and ideas like cars, extensions to add onto houses, and houses. Sketchup is a programme where you can connect up to a 3D printer, but there are tools that you use to control it and see things from different angles. The tool’s on the 3D printer are special equipment which you will find at certain places.
You use shapes and combine them with other shapes and it creates a mixture between both of them. There is a special software which you can use to download objects to give you ideas of creating things you’ve never thought of before.
