In Term 2 the Year 7 & 8 Extension students were lucky enough to visit Tiritiri Matangi Island which is a wildlife sanctuary. This trip was part of a collaboration with DOC (Department of Conservation) who sponsored this amazing trip. We went by ferry to the island and had plenty of tour guides to show us around the island. It was a fantastic experience seeing some of our endangered species as we went on the bush walk e.g. Saddleback, Stitchbird, Takahe etc. We would like to thank all the representatives from DOC who made this trip possible.

The Outlook for Someday Movie Entry - Biodiversity
This year a group of Year 5 & 6 Extension students entered a movie called "Biodiversity" into The Outlook For Someday Movie Competition 2015. Their movie is about how many of our animal species are dying out or are endangered due to a range of issues e.g. pollution and global warming.
Their movie has been shortlisted as one of the top 40 movies out of 156 entries this year. We find out next month whether or not we have made one of the top 20 movies for the competition overall. Well done to Yvonne, Venetia, Noah, Cameo, Seini, Omari and Talita for putting this movie together. Good luck team.

Ana - Saddleback (Tieke) and 3D designs
Ana is in the Year 7 & 8 Extension group. This is what she posted on her blog:
"Last term, in Extension we were learning about Biodiversity and how to protect endangered species. I chose the Tieke or Saddleback bird and created two designs to protect them, one being a trap for it's predators and the other a home. In this presentation, you will see my ideas and planning and also a link to see my movie that I created about my designs."
