Year 5&6 Talanoa Projects inspired by the Auckland Museum Trip - Term 2

Early on in Term 2 the Year 5 to 8 Extension groups had the opportunity to visit the Pacific Collection at the Auckland Museum. This was organised by a man called Ma'ara Maeva from the Museum and his colleagues as part of the Talanoa Programme. It was an amazing opportunity to see artefacts up close and see some of the work that the Museum curators do.

When our students got back to school they were inspired to create their own movies about the trip to the Museum. Students worked in groups to create some pretty cool animations, documentaries and movies inspired by the Talanoa Programme.

FiaFia 2018 @ Pt England

Last week on Thursday night we held our School FiaFia for 2018. This event is held every two years at our school and is an amazing way to share our many different cultures at our school. It's also a great way for our parents, families and communities to come together. Most importantly it was another opportunity for all of our students to shine.

The movies can be viewed on our school PENN archive. Congratulations to all of our teachers and parents who tutored and managed the groups. Thanks to all of our Pt England families and friends for turning out to support even though the weather was not the best.

Here are just a few of the groups from FiaFia.

FiaFia Rehearsal 2018

On Wednesday, the day before our school FiaFia, the whole school met in the hall for our FiaFia rehearsal. We couldn't sit in front of the big marquee like in previous years due to bad weather. Luckily for us footage of the rehearsal was streamed live onto the screen in the hall. Here are some highlights from the day.

Digital Nations 2030 Experience in 2018

Our Year 7 & 8 Extension students were invited to attend the Digital Nations 2030 Summit being held in Auckland on Monday 19th February. OMGTech and Code Avengers were running a showcase for local and international visitors to see what a digital programme might look like for students.

This was an amazing experience and our students got the chance to learn to code and play with robotics and electronics. Our students also had the opportunity to speak to visitors about what they were learning. Thank you to OMGTech and Code Avengers for an awesome experience!
