New Entrant Dreamers

So, what do you want to be when you grow up?

Our movie is about a 5 year old student who dreams about what she wants to be when she grows up. Maybe she could become a doctor, lawyer, sports star or someone really famous.

Our movie is showing today at the Manaiakalani film festival at Sylvia Park in Auckland. We hope that you enjoy watching it and hope that it might inspire you to think about what you really want to be in the future.

Can you name all 7 canoes?

Can you name all seven canoes (waka) that came to Aotearoa? What kinds of things did people bring with them on the wakas? Listen to Room 23 share their learning.

waka pictures

Take a look at some of our waka pictures.

Waimaria

Listen to Waimaria as she talks about a waka. She memorized all her lines before we filmed and didn't even need to look at the script. Isn't she clever?

Trip to Devonport

Yesterday Room 23 and Team One went on a trip to Devonport. We travelled by bus to Auckland City, then we caught a ferry to Devonport.

When we arrived we had lunch at a nearby park near the beach, and then each class enjoyed playing some fun games and activities.

We all had an amazing time and we were so lucky that the weather was great. Thank you so much to the parents who were able to help us on our trip (Vinolia's mum and cousin, Rosalina's mum and John-Amour's Dad).

We hope you enjoy looking at some photos of our trip.

Tom's waka

Tom's waka has paddles on each side. Tom learnt that the sail on a waka helps to move the waka along the water when it is windy.

TJ's waka

TJ has drawn a great picture of a waka. Can you see the sail and the shelter for the people on his waka?

Vinolia and Dezarae singing ABC

Rosalina and Waimaria singing Humpty Dumpty

Listen to Rosalina and Waimaria sing 'Humpty Dumpty'.

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall
All the king's horses
And all the king's men
Couldn't put Humpty together again.

Dezarae Sings "1,2,3,4,5"

In this movie Dezarae sings a nursery rhyme called 1,2,3,4,5. The children in our class really enjoy singing. Sing along with her if you like, and please leave a comment.
