In the following movie a team of scientists travel into the past and future to see how we can make changes to help save our planet. It screened today at the Manaiakalani Film Festival at Hoyts cinemas in Sylvia Park.

Pollution is a major threat to the sustainability of our planet. With each passing day, the air we breathe and the water we drink becomes adversely affected because of the amount of pollution that is produced and released into the environment. One way that we can prevent this is by reducing, reusing and recycling.

Rugby World Cup Finals

Sitting at the end of my chair waiting nervously for the game to start not knowing if the Mighty All Blacks would take it out in the end or having a major upset against the fearsome team France.

As Richie Macaw and Thierry Dusautoir (captains of France and All Blacks) led their teams out of the holding rooms and into the end of the tunnel where they would experience the last 80min of the Rugby World Cup and battle out in the final for that William Webb Ellis cup. Lining up together you could see the determination of both teams eagerly wanting to win that cup and take it out to make their country proud. Soon as both teams came out the camera went straight to the crowd, you could see a sea of white and black backing up the All Blacks. Excitement was really in the air.

After the National anthem both teams ran out onto the field as the All Blacks were getting ready to perform the Haka. The Haka was led by Piri Weepu the scrum-half. The All Blacks performed the haka with pride and dignity. But the french weren’t afraid to put up a good battle.

The whistle blew and Piri Weepu kicked off to the french. That’s when I knew that the game was going to be really intense. Seconds after seconds then minutes after minutes nobody was scoring. I guess my parents finally knew I was quite not together with me screaming and yelling at the T.V yelling “pass the ball or are you serious reff” I guess I couldn’t help it. Finally the All Blacks tried. An outstanding try by Tony Woodcock. It was amazing. In the second half France scored by that wasn’t enough for them to win the Webb Ellis Cup and take it out.

Richie McCaw led his team to victory and was very proud of his boys. They made history. It has been 24 years since the Rugby World Cup has been to New Zealand and 24 years since they have won it.

Champions!

The most important game in New Zealand Rugby history was about to begin. The game that would really show who was the the real number one team in the world. The All blacks were in the final showdown with the very fortunate French side. The All Blacks were heavy favourites with undefeated streak, while France had already lost two pool games against New Zealand and Tonga!

I was watching the event on tv. The atmosphere was huge! Even I was getting nervous just watching the crowd build! The crowd roared before and throughout the game. The game was about to begin. The two teams were about to jogg onto the field. They came onto the field and sang their national anthems (I stood up and sang it too!). The All Blacks performed their fearsome haka and the match was about to begin.

France came out flying quickly getting the ball into their possession. Surprisingly the French were not kicking the ball away as they normally did in their recent games. Instead they were using the ball spreading it quickly around the park trying to counter the might of the All Blacks defence. France were on the front foot in the first 20 minutes, dominating the set pieces with strong scrums and decisive line outs.

The All Blacks needed to establish themselves as the dominate team in this game. So they capitalized on a chance close to the Frech try line with a beautiful set piece move ending up with the prop Tony Woodcock cashing in for the first points. This was a big kick coming up, Weepu was given several chances to take the lead for the All Blacks but was denied both times. This kick would give the All Blacks a bit of breathing space but unfortunately Piri Weepu failed to convert. They went to halftime with the lead being 5-0.

The All Blacks were struck with yet another injury to young gun Aaron Cruden forcing Stephen Donald to come on and make his debut in the World Cup! Fortunately Donald stepped up to the challenge and converted what would be the winning penalty! I was ready to faint in the dying minutes of the game with the clock ticking and the French behind by 1 but having the ball inside the All Blacks half. I nervously watched on as the clock ticked....... YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The All Blacks were given a penalty, all they needed to do was win the line and hold onto the ball. YEEEEAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!! THE PLAGUE IS FINALLY OVER!!!!!! 24 YEARS OF WAITING HAVE FINALLY COME TO AN END!!!!!!!!!

Cross Country 2011

Here's a little riddle: what do most people look forward to, is very competitive and is kinda like a battle of the fittest ?...Cross country !

Every year, we hold a cross country race. The way its usually set up is in age groups but this year it was a bit different. Instead of age groups, we just raced in years. For example all the Year 7 girls race each other, Year 7 boys race and so on.

Something that was also a bit different was the race course. Instead of just a run around the reserve and back to our field, we ran a race course that was 3.5km ! But luckily for the Year 7's, they only had to run 3km.

As soon as the Year 7 boys were out of sight, the Year 8 girls lined up along the starting line. Miss V explained the race course to us and we waited anxiously for Miss V to clap the clapper. "On your marks" she started "get set..." CLAP ! As soon as we heard the 'clap' we shot off like lightening bolts and tried to overtake each other.

We hadn't even gotten to halfway when we saw the boys catching up to us. Most of us girls started sprinting as soon as we saw the boys, but others were calm and collected and didn't even try to keep in front of the boys. Unfortunately, I was one of those girls. Taking our time, kind of just strolling through the bush.

For a while we started to just stroll along, but then we felt quite de-hydrated so we started to power-walk. A long while later, we saw our school poking through all the ferns and trees, so we started to walk faster. We had nearly gotten to the finished line when we were told by Mrs Lagitupu that we still had 1/2km to run. Puffed out, we went back to walking and finally got to the finish line.

I had known that I wasn't going to come first because I was competing against people like Etta and April. But my goal was to not come last and guess what? I didn't !

All Black players Richard Kahui, Isaia Toeava and Adam Thompson drew a huge crowd of All Black supporters at Glen Innes Pak'nSave last week. Excited children (and their mums) eagerly waited in the queue to get an autograph, photos and the chance to meet some famous All Blacks. Many Pt England students were lucky enough to meet their stars. Go the All Blacks!

Term 3 is already underway as 'Rugby World Cup' fever hits our school. As usual, immersion assembly was an exciting event with teachers out in full force dressed up as rugby players. Mr Burt and his vendors issued tickets, food and drinks to many lucky students in the audience. Mr Jacobsen could be heard shouting "Ireland!" every so often, as he was fully garbed in Irish colours. We were also treated to an amazing movie about a famous former All Black, the legendary George Nepia. What a great start to the term!

Term 2 Highlights

Man,what a term it’s been! I mean it’s been one of the hardest term’s I’ve gone through! There were so many trainings I had to attend for the schools sports teams, designing signs to go around our school, producing PENN and much more.

One of the many highlights for me this term was participating in the schools Rugby team. I really enjoy training with my mates and we are doing really well this year and are hoping that we can go all the way. So far we have won the Auckland East tournament and are heading into the Auckland champion of champions tournament this Wednesday! Another thing that was related to Rugby throughout the term was some of my friends and I making the Bill Mclaren East Auckland team. I have really enjoyed the trainings and cannot wait for the tournament to come up!

Being able to go to the annual ‘I am making movies 2’ awards at the Auckland Museum was another highlight, making the actual movie was a highlight but making the finals for best documentary is a true honour. It was a wonderful experience especially getting to listen to an awesome all men choir! They were outstanding and really set the night!

Although this term would be the term where I was challenged the most physically it was still an enjoyable one. It was an amazing experience for me, especially sports. It’s been a term that I will never forget when I go onto college.

Term 2 highlights

Term 2 has a lot of awesome highlights in it. So many things to participate in like different types of sports like soccer, rugby, netball and many more different kinds of sports. We also do a lot of learning through this past term with our netbooks.

One of my favourite highlight this term was of course the sports. Sports are a big hobby of mine. A sport I joined in the beginning of this term was soccer. This was the first time we had ever entered a soccer competition. Our coach was the awesome Rm 19 teacher Mr Harris. Our boys also entered. Another sport I joined is netball. We play netball every Tuesday and our coach is Missy. So far we are doing alright but we need more practice.

Another highlight of mine I am making movies. We had a lot of fun making the movie but sometimes it would be a lot pressure by Mrs Lagitupu yelling at us to get it done. But all that yelling paid off at the end. It paid off because when it was time to go to the awards which was held by Auckland Museum we won Best Storytelling and the Supreme Award. Our prize a digital video camera, a few USB’s and a video camera. It was a lot of fun.

My last highlight for Term 2 was Taoga Time with Mrs Nua. With her we learnt how to speak Japanese and how to pronounce the mihi in Maori. We learnt how to count and to say hello, good afternoon, and many more with Mrs Nua. Just last week Mrs Nua’s sister Mrs London came to our school to teach how to speak Japanese. She was an expert and was excellent at speaking that language. She taught us a lot of things for example things like our body part, using chop sticks and many more. Taoga Time this term was AWESOME.

This term has been an awesome term for me and can’t wait for next term.

Mr Burt's korero

On Thursdays, team five have assembly in the street. Mr Burt recently came back from over seas. He talked to us about three things. First ‘Gum is Dumb’, ‘Uniform’ and Schools in over seas. He told us so much about the rich and the poor schools there.

First he talked to us about Gum. People here at our school are out of control with chewing gum. There is a good reason why that gum is not allowed here at school. The reason why is because it can get stuck to furniture and it also looks very ugly on our school grounds. It is also bad chewing gum then you swallow it because people say that if you swallow gum, it will come out eight years later.

There are many schools overseas that have no money. Some schools don’t have a music teacher or even a sport teacher. Some teachers sadly get fired because the school does not have enough money to pay them. He also told us that they have teachers that only work four days a week. Mr Burt said that we are lucky to have a music teacher, also a sports co-ordinator and that it is a privilege to have these net books and have these kinds of working tools that we use here.

Now that he has told us about schools over seas, it is an honour being here at this school and his talk also made us feel sad about the people in other countries. Now that we know we are one of the best schools in the world.

Term 2 Highlights

The holidays are nearing and the school term nearly over. I am quite sad that the term is ending because term 2 has been filled with some thrilling events and fascinating activities. Some of which were my job as being a barrister, being in the I AM Making Movies competition and playing rugby !

Being a barrister has given me some useful skills. Now, I know how to make a cappuccino, flat white, long black, short black, moccacino, and every kids favourite...hot chocolates ! These skills that I have developed will be very useful if, in the future, I want to become a professional barrister.

The I AM Making Movies competition was also a great experience. In this competition, we got to make our own movies. We based our movie on the history and heritage of New Zealand. It was an animation with a voice over. What was awesome about this competition, was that we won the award for “best creative storytelling” and we even won the “supreme” award ! Again, it was an awesome experience !

This term, has also been the start to our rugby season. So far, we have had about 3 games, against Bailey Road, St Josephs and Tamaki Intermediate. The total amount of the games we have won, are 1 ! Even though we haven’t won many games, we still have a chance because we have upcoming games against Viscount and Kedgley. Kedgley and Viscount are very good rugby teams, so we have to try extremely hard when we play against them !

Term 2 has had many fun things to do and join. I hope that term 3 can do the same !

An awards evening was held last night at the Auckland Museum for the 2011 'I AM MAKING MOVIES 2' film competition.

Finalists' movies from Primary and Secondary Schools across Auckland were screened during the night, including 3 entries from our school.

Congratulations to Miss King and Room 13 for winning their category.

Well done and congratulations to the extension group and students from Team 5 (Paulitia, Sela, Helen, Kezia, Henry and all the animators) for winning their category and for taking out the top prize of 'Supreme Award' winners. Well done!!!

Immersion: Creativity with Ms Tito

For this term our theme is “Bigger, Better, Faster, Stronger”. In other words we are studying how technology has changed over the years. To help us out with what we have to learn, we have immersion classes. The first rotation activity our class did was “Creativity”. Ms Tito was the teacher for this activity so I was sure that this would be fun!

As part of our task we had to create a way of creating our name in anyway possible. The whole senior team could enter this competition and the prize would be to throw water balloons at your class, including the teacher!!! I looked around the classroom seeing many cool designs. I knew that this task was not going to be easy!

When I was thinking about some ideas I looked around the class room and saw people already starting! That showed me that I really needed to pick up before time ran out! I had an idea but it was quite complicated. In the end of the session I had just finished in time, I don’t think it was my best work that I have done but I just hope it would be good enough to be a contender at least.

At the end of the day I really enjoyed the activity and I would like to do it again!

Immersion: Discovery with Mrs Nua

Our last rotation was discovery with Mrs Nua. We first did an acrostic poem for discovery. Afterwards we had a competition to see who could create a shield or a barrier to protect an egg from cracking, when dropping it from 1 metre high. As we planned and got ready for our final design, we all started our experiment. We were given an egg, several straws, popsicle sticks, rubber bands and measuring tape. Our groups were in three’s and I was with Sela and Kezia. We placed out the newspaper and each group made their way outside to start.

Our final results didn’t turn out so good. Apparently our egg cracked, but it was very cool though. The winner was Casey and Tanielu. So what I learned from discovery was whether we could find out if our experiment worked or not. It was such a lot of fun.

Team 5 will be exploring the following concepts: Imagination, Creativity, Discovery, Innovation and Practicality, through a series of immersion rotation sessions.

Students will also investigate issues and/or problems around our school environment and seek ways to make improvements or find solutions. Our Pt England Learning model will be utilized alongside other metacognitive strategies such as the 'Thinking Hats' and 'Thinkers Keys'.

Hi my name is Musse. I come from Christchurch, New Zealand, but I go to Pt England School in Glen Innes now. I am 11 years old. I was born in Christchurch Women’s Hospital. My favourite colour is blue and my favourite sports are soccer and rugby.

In my family I have a Dad and Mum. Their names are Yigzaw and Yeshu. I also have 3 sisters and their names are Jerusalem, Rebeka, and Selome.

My last school was Shirley Intermediate School in Christchurch. My friends names were Samuel, Kitiona, Tasipale, and Viliami.

My favourite thing to do in my spare time is to go on Playstation and play with my family.

I feel really happy with starting school at Pt England, because I have found lots of friends and because people from this school have been welcoming me to this school.

New Netbooks!

Room 21 are loving their new netbooks! Mrs Burt arrived on Wednesday last week to deliver them to our class. We have spent the past few days getting to know how to navigate and use the different functions because the desktop and programmes/applications are a little different to what we're used to.

We have been using google docs for our writing, which is later posted on to our individual blogs.

We have also been learning and practicing how to take good care of them. We are so lucky to have them and we would like to thank Mr and Mrs Burt for making it happen (and all the other important people involved). We would also like to say a huge thank you to our Mums and Dads for paying for our netbooks!

Trip to Devonport

Yesterday Room 23 and Team One went on a trip to Devonport. We travelled by bus to Auckland City, then we caught a ferry to Devonport.

When we arrived we had lunch at a nearby park near the beach, and then each class enjoyed playing some fun games and activities.

We all had an amazing time and we were so lucky that the weather was great. Thank you so much to the parents who were able to help us on our trip (Vinolia's mum and cousin, Rosalina's mum and John-Amour's Dad).

In term 3 our school wide topic is called "Mighty Mariners". Team one will focus on the story of Kupe and the 7 canoes. Legend has it that a man called Kupe was the first to discover NZ, and that a great fleet of 7 canoes came from the South Pacific to Aotearoa.

Kia ora everyone! Room 23 is a new entrant class ( 5 year olds) at Pt England School. Most of the students in our class began school in Term 2.

Greetings to all our followers this year! Prize giving was a special evening for us. All of our whanau present were so happy and we were too! Right from the start we were singing, cheering and clapping as loud as we could! Many awards were presented, best effort, citizenship, attendance, academic, service to the school through sports players of the year. It was awesome!

We have a special movie to share with you. This is our final performance for the year the year 6 team. It is our school prize giving item. Our teacher Ms Tito taught us this very fun item. We loved being part of it - you will be able to see this in the video.

Room 18 students

What's on your mind Tiki?

When the tall Mr J passed me the mic I knew it was my turn. As much as I was nervous I was excited. I love that feeling. I was back on the stage waiting for those words .It's like time plays a game with you when you want it to slow down it speeds up. I could see my parents - that made my palms start sweating. The guitarists were in the wings waiting until it was our turn . By then I was as hot as a Ferrari's engine . Sione said those words 'Tiki whats on your mind?' I stood up, my heart beating as fast as it could. The guitarists were creeping on to the stage with their big guitars .

I turned on the mic ready to sing . Now that is a buzzy feeling . I opened my mouth and my little brother was laughing his head off. I started to sing with a smile on my face. I sang the first two lines and I was already dancing. The crowd was quiet so I thought they didn't like it. I started singing the chorus. My hips swaying, my mouth moving. I saw my dad then calmed down. That is one of those times when time plays that game with me. So I just let it slide. Before I knew it my song was slowly ending .I felt like everyone stopped.

I turned and thought seriously 'what's for dinner?' Then the crowd just let me have it they were clapping and yelling. That I will never forget. I looked at my dad and smiled he smiled back then I knew what was for dinner.

Pompeii with Te Papa

This morning we had another wonderful opportunity to meet with Dr Hamish Campbell and two new people. One person was Riria Hotere who has taken the place that Diana-Grace normally has and Dr Matthew. All three were great to listen to. It's amazing how much we can learn in such a short time. Matthew explained to us what life would have been like before the eruption in 79AD, how life would have been. It was interesting to learn about all the different gods the people worshipped in Pompeii. There seemed to be many. We were shown the plaster casts as well that were made when Pompeii was excavated. It's amazing to think that what stands now as the ruins of Pompeii was excavated because it was buried by the ash and rock that came from Mt Vesuvius. It was buried for 1700 years!

We were able to ask some questions throughout. The answers we received were so good - the team at Te Papa are so good at explaining things. We've posted some photos here of our VC with Te Papa. Students of Room 18 will be posting their reflections on their individual blogs soon. Some will have some short videos to share with you.

Manaiakalani Film Festival

It's Thursday the 12th of November and we've just returned from watching films created by our very own teachers and students. I'm not just talking about Pt England but schools from all around our community. The hall was full of laughing, singing and dancing students as the movies were shown to us in the hour we watched. Our class had a movie too. We got to show it to our school on Friday afternoon. We've posted it here just incase you missed it. It's based on a topic that some of us have been learning about in our extension class. We hope you enjoy our movie.

As you may know, Pt England School's topic for this term is "The Art In Storytelling". So you would probably think that we would have to create an animation of a Fairy Tale, BUT NO!

Ms Tito (our teacher) came up with an absolutely terrific idea. Instead of doing normal Fairy Tales we animated TWISTED Fairy Tales. This is one that we (Tanielu , Omni and Blessing) created. Enjoy!

Kia ora koutou katoa - Hi everyone.
One thousand apologies for not posting sooner but my main focus has been to get to know the wonderful students in my new class... Room 18 of Point England school - Wooohoooo!
I can honestly say I am absolutely delighted with my whole class. I have a room full of very talented year 6 students that have wonderful attitudes towards education and learning. What more could a teacher ask for? (besides muffins and chocolate biscuits)
I am slowly getting to know my students to see what makes them tick... their interests, passions, strengths and weaknesses AND like most of them said, a lot of them have the same passions and interests as myself, so we get on like a house on fire.
This terms topic is of course 'The art in storytelling' and we are having a blast. We have pretty much focused most learning areas around myths and legends, fairy tales and folk stories - so lots of fiction and fictitious characters. Students have been writing creative 'twisted fairy tales' to produce for their I.C.T learning object, so watch this space for future posts of movies and animations. Our reading material for our reading tumble has a fiction focus also. If you know anyone in Room 18, you might want to ask them about some of the folk stories or myths we have been reading about. We have been inspired by Dr Seuss's illustrations and have based some artwork around his weird and wonderful drawings - we might have to take some photos to post as well.
All in all, we are having a ball in Room 18. I have been really impressed with the activities a lot of my students have been involved in such as; interviewing the prime minister, conferencing with Hamish Campbell, presenting (on a weekly basis) to visiting teachers and principals, being school role models during assembly and lots more.
So, to all you followers of Pt England School... I feel blessed to be working in a school that really cares about each and every person linked to the school. the children, the staff and the community. UPDATE Kalim 5 minutes of fame

Kalim did us proud Pt England! He had the difficult task of being the very first performer on Monday. The audience were treated to Kalim singing as well as some very slick moves across the stage. Proud Pt Englanders and family members were in the crowd cheering.
Kalim sang 'I want you back' by the Jackson five and then followed it up with a dance routine to a song by TPain. At the end of the performance we watched 3 more items - all varied in style and talent. The winner was announced. This time round it wasn't Kalim, however we know that it's a great start for him and next time he will be even better. Thanks to Mr Jacobsen for the great photos!

Room 18 have HIRED!

We know that a lot of you have been waiting to hear the outcome of our search for a great teacher for Room 18. If you have watched our advertisement here, then you will know the kind of teacher we are after. Well, we can make an announcement, here on Room 18's blog! After way too many people ignoring our advertisement and sending Mr Burt applications on forms and paper, someone finally 'GOT us' and sent the application WE were after. Check out Miss Tito's video....

So you can see why, when we had watched that, we all said "That's the teacher for Room 18!" We were pretty busy on Friday with our farewell party for Mrs Lagitupu, but we took a few minutes with a camera to film some messages to Miss Tito to let her know we like her application.

Mr Burt told us today that Miss Tito will be coming to Pt England in time to start term 3 with us. In the meantime we have Mr Jacobsen as our teacher (remember him from this movie?), so look out for some good times being posted here...

MTV Dance Stars

We didn’t realise how many talented dancers we had in our class until we put together an MTV video.

The song is called ‘1, 2 Step’ by Ciara. Most of the dancing was unrehearsed, and we quickly discovered that there were some pretty talented dancers in our class.

Watch Jacob and Bobbi Grace amaze us with their krumping moves, and see Blessing with his cool flips. You might see them starring in a real music video in the future!

Riverside Club Rocks!

Riverside club is held every Wednesday between 3:30 and 5:00pm throughout the school year.

Q: When did it start?
A: Riverside club started in August 1991.

Q: How long have you been a part of it?
A: Since the day it began. It was started by me and Mrs Burt, and Mr and Mrs Liddle.

Q: Why is it called the Riverside club?
A: It’s called the Riverside club partly because I live on Riverside Avenue, but also because when the club started, it was in the Scout hall on Riverside Avenue.

Q: What gave you the idea to start the Riverside club?
A: Well we noticed that there were a lot of kids who didn’t have much to do after school, especially when there were no winter sports on. So we thought that we’d start a club that could give people fun things to do once a week after school, and that they could do camps in the holidays.

Q: Where do you get all your game ideas from?
A: Well Sela, two places really. One is from experience and friends and from reading books. I’ve acquired those games over a long, long time. The other place I get them from is, I make them up!

C.R.E. with Mrs Clarke

C.R.E. stands for Christian Religious Education. Mrs Clarke teaches C.R.E. to the Senior School for half an hour every Friday from Term 2 to Term 4.

Every lesson is about a story from the bible. We always learn something important from the lessons such as a moral of the story, or a message about how we can become better Christians.

We really appreciate Mrs Clarke for teaching us more about the bible.

Sam and Kalim's got talent!

During many a lunchtime you can hear Sam and Kalim singing away as we eat our lunch . We were so impressed that we asked them to record themselves for fun and add a video to show off their talents. This is their take on an old classic "I want you back" by Jackson 5 (Michael Jackson and his brothers).

Thank you to the other great students in Room 18 for agreeing to be back up singers and dancers. Tanielu did a great job as usual editing all the footage with some help from the teacher.

Hopefully we will see Sam (Semiliu) and Kalim on NZ idol in the future!

Meeting House update

Hooray! Our new meeting house has finally been completed and is already in use. It looks fantastic and has created some much needed quiet space for staff and students to use.

Each of the 3 meeting rooms has a new name. If you know the names of these rooms please post a comment, especially all you Pt Englanders.

Cruz did an excellent job of putting this movie together, and Tyler was a great reporter. Leoden, Kezia and Omni also helped with this movie. Thank you Mauina from Room 17 and Mr Jacobsen for agreeing to be interviewed. Well done team.

Immersion Week

During the first week of each term, the Senior School usually have an immersion rotation. This involves each class in the senior school learning about a different aspect of the topic from each of the teachers in the senior school. Having an immersion week helps our students to gain background knowledge about the topic so that they can ask better questions.

Room 18 are hiring!

Hi everyone, in a few weeks time I will be leaving to go on maternity leave. That means that the fantastic Room 18 will need a new teacher to take over when I am gone.

A group of talented Year 6 students from this class decided to create an advertisement for the position. If you haven't already seen it, the movie ad is on our school website under 'Employment opportunities'. But you can view it below.

Dino-Might!

We have an exciting new topic this term. Our new topic is called "Dino-Might!" and it's all about dinosaurs. These amazing creatures roamed the earth for over 140 million years. What did they eat? How did they live? How did they move? What colour were they? Why did they become extinct? These are some of the questions that we will be investigating this term. Maybe you can leave us a comment if you know some of the answers to any of these questions.

At the start of each new term, we have an immersion assembly where all the teachers dress up according to the theme or topic for the term. Team 4 decided to put together a movie to share for immersion. Well done to Mrs Nua, Ms Squires, Miss King and Mr Palmer for starring in it. Mrs Lagitupu was the director. We hope you like it.

Visual Mihimihi

In term one, the Senior School learnt how to mihi in Maori and introduce ourselves appropriately in English (using the 'Language of Success'). We also created 'visual mihimihi' artwork to accompany our speeches (mihi). Each visual mihimihi had to have four parts to it:

1) A self portrait
2) A koru design that represents our whanau
3) A place of significance to us
4) A piece that represents our culture.

We also had to explain why we chose to draw the artwork/image and how it was significant to us. Those of us who spoke clearly and confidently, and memorised our mihi, scored well on our rubric. Take a look at some of our finished artworks and tell us what you think about them.

Moses Holiday Recount

In this movie, Moses briefly tells us about what he got up to in the holidays. Each of the Senior school classes were assigned a task, which was to create a movie about one thing they did in the holidays.

The graphics were created in Hyperstudio 5, and then the images were exported as jpegs into i-movie. A voice over was included to explain what the graphics were about, and then a soundtrack was added to some movies if there was enough time. Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing some of the completed holiday recounts from our class. We would love to hear about what YOU got up to in the holidays!

Earthrace

Check out this cool powerboat! Leoden was lucky enough to visit this amazing boat at the Panmure Yacht club a couple of weeks ago. So what's so special about this boat? Well for one thing, it has an amazing design and cool graphics on the outside of the boat. The Earthrace set a new record for a powerboat to circumnavigate the globe. The time was 60 days, 23 hours and 47 minutes, over 2 weeks faster than the old record.

It is 78 feet long and can reach speeds of up to 40 knots. It was built in Auckland, NZ and was ready to launch in February 2006. The Earthrace cost about $3 million dollars to build. Did you know that it uses 100% biodiesel fuel? If you didn't know, this type of fuel is natural, nontoxic and biodegradable. In other words, its good for the environment.

The Earthrace sure is one cool boat! Well done Leoden!

New Building at Pt England

Have you noticed the new building here at Pt England School? Well, Gates reading group decided to investigate what the new building was going to be. Leoden interviewed Mr Jacobsen and found out the answers to some of our questions. We can't wait to see the new building completed!

Tanielu did a great job with the videography and Leoden was a fantastic interviewer. Cruz edited this movie with some help from Mrs Lagitupu. Sela took some great photos, and Paulitia and Kezia provided the script. Well done guys!

The Language of Success

At Pt England School we have been learning about the language of success. This means that we need to be able to speak and write in English using the correct form for the occasion. We will know how and when to speak and write in the 'formal register', and have a vocabulary wide enough to help us choose words that will help our audience understand our message.

In this movie, the members of Gates reading group present scenarios where the language of success may be used. We also showcase some of our class holiday recounts, and Kalim and Semiliu do a wonderful job singing acapella for our soundtrack.

Treaty of Waitangi

The following movie is about the Treaty of Waitangi, and is presented by the Einsteins Reading group. They had fun investigating what the Treaty was about. They learnt that it was about the 3P's of Protection, Partnership and Participation. They also learnt about some of the key people who were involved in the Treaty. The Treaty of Waitangi was signed on the 6th of February, 1840.

Included in this video are some bloopers to show our audience that filming and acting is not as easy as it looks. The students filmed this movie independently, but had help with editing. We hope you enjoy their movie.

Welcome to our class blog! The following movie was put together by a group of students in our class to introduce Room 18. First they had to brainstorm their ideas, write a script, prepare a storyboard and then conference with their teacher.
